History on Tap at Conner Prairie

Conner Prairie Horizon Council, the young professional group associated with the interactive history park in DSC_8660.NEFFishers, is organizing the third annual History on Tap. This year the event takes place on Friday, May 30, and will feature 20 awesome local breweries.

What makes History on Tap unique from other festivals is the venue and the staff. Conner Prairie is a beautiful outdoor space with a variety of buildings, livestock, and costumed interpreters representing Indiana’s past. History on Tap takes place in and around Prairietown, and the year is 1836. You’ll have a chance to meet people who are dressed in period garb and see the world from the point of view of early 19th century America.

Tickets are $60 for VIP, $45 for early admission, and $35 for general admission.  Designated driver tickets are available for $10. All tickets include entry into Conner Prairie, tastings from all breweries, and a commemorative glass. Food is available for purchase at the event. The buffet will be $12 per person and will include a taco bar,  brats, grilled chicken, blackened chicken, pasta salad and other good foods.

Girls Pint Out will be giving away a pair of tickets on Twitter! To win, get tweeting! Tweet about what you love about Conner Prairie and tag @cphorizon and @ingirlspintout. We will pick winners at random on Friday, May 16th at 4 p.m.

Our 5th anniversary beer brewers!

1544561_858258234191658_5432480205957736900_nGirls Pint Out was founded in Indianapolis in March 2010.  The founding chapter may have just celebrated our 4th anniversary this March, but we are already plotting and planning our 5th anniversary in 2015!

At our April 15th event at Thr3e Wise Men Brewing, we made a big announcement: Thr3e Wise Men’s Head Brewer Keely Thomlinson and Scarlet Lane Brewing’s Brewer Eilise Lane  are collaborating to brew the Girls Pint Out 5th anniversary beer! We are excited that two rockstar women brewers are helping us celebrate this big milestone.  Our anniversary beer brewers, Keely & Eilise

The excitement doesn’t end there. We want your help designing the 5th anniversary beer! What styles do you like? Is the Girls Pint Out beer hoppy? Sweet? Dark? Tart? What beer do you want to drink to celebrate Girls Pint Out’s big day? What should the beer be named? Be creative!

Submit your ideas for the beer style, special characteristics, and beer name by July 1, 2014: tinyurl.com/GPO5beer

We will announce the winning submission at a special event at the new Scotty’s Brewhouse in Brownsburg late this fall!

A Night in Speedway with Flat 12 and Sarah Fisher

Lino's Coffee

Our girls from Indiana Girls’ Pint Out will join Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing and Flat12 Bierwerks next week at the Dallara IndyCar Factory for a special event with Lino’s Coffee!

We’ll start our engines at 5 pm with a special beer tapping from our friends at Flat12 Bierwerks.

At 5:30, we’ll kick things into high gear as Sarah Fisher joins us! Sarah is the youngest woman to qualify for the Indy 500. After compiling the most Indianapolis 500 starts of any woman in history, in 2008, Sarah became a team owner in the IZOD IndyCar Series. Her team scored its first victory in October 2011 with driver Ed Carpenter, and Sarah became the first female team owner to win a race in the IZOD IndyCar Series. In 2012 Fisher’s race team, Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing, is competing in the IZOD IndyCar Series with rookie driver Josef Newgarden.

A special beer tapping PLUS a spectacular local Indy lady? This night is sure to be a win. RSVP here and let us know you’re joining us! Read More

Upcoming Boston Events!

Let’s be honest, life has been crazy and I’ve had zero time to sit down and plan something amazing for all of our friends in Boston. The good news is that moment is over and we’re filled with events for the rest of the fall including our THIRD birthday! How crazy is that? We’re still planning some exciting stuff, so please keep an eye here, on twitter, and on facebook for updates. We’re planning on partying BEFORE Thanksgiving, so clear the calendars.

First up is Thirst Boston. Taking place November 10-11th at the Hotel Commonwealth, “Thirst Boston is a gathering of bartenders, industry icons and beverage connoisseurs from Boston and beyond.  Our goal is to educate attendees on the science, craft, and taste of all things related to the art of drink. We want to celebrate our local talent (your favorite bartenders and baristas) and have a pretty kick-ass time hanging out together.” Sounds pretty great, right? Well, you haven’t even heard about my favorite parts! There are two beer seminars. The first, Beer Back: Beer’s Integration in Cocktailsfeaturing the power duo of Kevin Mabry from jm Curley and Kevin Martin from Eastern Standard (tickets and info here). The second, New World of Beer: Brewing in New England from the Pilgrims to the Present, featuring Mark Hellendrung of Narragansett Beer, Chris Lohring of Notch Brewing and Dann Paquette of Pretty Things Beer and Ale Project and moderated by Lauren Clark, author of the forthcoming Crafty Bastards: Beer in New England from the Mayflower to the Modern Day (tickets and info here).

Head on over to their website for more information on events, seminars, and so much more. Each seminar ticket gives you entry to the Hall of Liquids which features some craft brewers, both local and national: BoulevardRising TideBantam CiderIthaca BeerNewburyport BrewingPeak OrganicNotch, and Long Trail. So for the ticket to a seminar ($20) you get to drink all of these incredible beers and ciders. Kind of a great deal, right? Plus we’re pretty sure you all might like things that aren’t beer (Japanese whisky maybe? Or tequila?)

Next up, Team GPO. We’ve been running with Night Shift Brewing and will be again for Cambridge 5K’s Yulefest. This year, on December 1, over in Harvard Square. Sign up for Team GPO/Night Shift Brewing on their website and be sure to let us know on Twitter so we can rally the troops before the race! After the 5K there are plenty of beers to drink from the incredible sponsors (ahem, like Night Shift).

Also in December is Eat Boutique’s Holiday Market. Taking place on December 7th at the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal in the Seaport, it is the spot to do ALL of your holiday shopping. Take a look at their artisan and sponsor list on the website to get your shopping list started. Also, for some CRAZY reason, they asked me to do a special tasting! I haven’t chosen all of the breweries and cider makers as of yet, but trust me, there will be some special items in this tasting. Plus, I’ll be there! So, all the fun. (I hope!) :) Tickets are available on the site as well – note, the tasting is an additional ticket price.

I think this might keep us busy for the next couple of weeks. See you soon!

Sin & Tonic: A Collaboration with New Belgium

132362 Girls Pint Out-Mass Ave Pub

You know who’s awesome? The folks over at New Belgium Brewing who let one of our Co-Founders, Jenn Litz come in an brew a beer with them. It’s called Sin & Tonic and as you guessed, it’s a spin on Gin & Tonic. So, pretty cool, right? What’s better is that the guys at NBB agreed to let us simultaneously tap S&T in 8 different states. This is happening tomorrow! Find it in your area and have a pint with us. If you’re not able to make it, you can join in with us through our Google+ Hangout. New Belgium’s Co-Founder Kim Jordan will join us for a Q&A Segment and Jenn and I will be chatting with other chapters about the brew and GPO. We’ll be using the hashtag #SINwithGPO on Facebook and Twitter so you’re able to find us online.

A casual conversation between New Belgium Brewing and beer industry writer Jennifer Litz of Craft Business Daily has resulted in a rare, one-off beer based on the flavor profile of a classic gin & tonic cocktail. Made with quinine and lime, Litz and New Belgium’s collaborative “Sin & Tonic” will be simultaneously tapped at eight bars across the country on Wednesday, October 23, starting at 8:00 p.m. EST. Girls’ Pint Out, a group dedicated to fostering women’s appreciation of craft beer, will host the events and New Belgium CEO and co-founder Kim Jordan will join via live streaming video.

Jennifer Litz, who traveled to New Belgium to brew Sin & Tonic on the brewery’s 10-barrel pilot system, will also join the event online.

“New Belgium was one of the first craft breweries that blew my socks off with seriously quirky and innovative brews,” said Litz. “So when we started chatting about a collaboration beer, I knew they’d be up for something completely different – like a craft take on a gin & tonic. I think the end result really tastes a little like a gin & tonic and a lot like beer. It’s definitely different. And I hope it glows in the dark.”

4 Colorado Beers to Buy While Attending GABF

While attending GABF you should take advantage of some special Colorado beer releases to take back with you to your friends and family. I’m pretty positive they will be forever greatful.

Crooked Stave Brewery – Origins Batch 2

Origins is a barrel aged burgundy sour. I couldn’t find a detailed description and haven’t tried it yet, but it gets very high ratings.

Best place to pick this up is at Crooked Stave Brewery. Also available in limited quantities at liquor stores such as Mr. B’s and Mile High Wine and Spirits.

Great Divide – Fresh Hop

Fresh Hop is a labor of love meant to be enjoyed today. Brewed in the fall with wet, whole cone hops from the Pacific Northwest, Fresh Hop is the embodiment of seasonality. Don’t age it. Keep it cold. Drink it now. Savoring this delightful pale ale during harvest season ensures that its unparalleled grassy, citrus hop brilliance will remain uncompromised.

Best place to pick this up is at Great Divide Brewery. Also available at liquor stores such as Mr. B’s and Mile High Wine and Spirits.

Avery – Rumpkin

We wondered what would happen if a monstrous pumpkin ale, plump full of spicy gourdiness, were aged in fine fresh rum barrels to add suggestions of delicate oak and candied molasses. Rumpkin is what happened! This first member of the Annual Barrel-Aged Series was brewed with roasted pumpkins from a local Boulder County farm, and spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger.

Very limited quantities remaining however you can pick it up at Highland Wine and Liquor at 10 AM on Friday during their special GABF release or they have 1 case left at Mayfair Liquors.

New Belgium – Le Terroir

Le Terroir is a french term meaning “of the earth.” Used to reference the environmental conditions that affect the brew, we like to think about the terroir of our foeders. These wooden barrels age our sour beer in varying temperatures, humidity, and vibrations. The terroir of New Belgium, so to speak. Add in another variable by dry-hopping with peachy, mango-like Amarillo hops, and we created a beer that changes every time we brew it.

You can find this at Highland Wine and Liquor.

All of these beers with the exception of Fresh Hops are limited in quantities. They are special releases and most produced only once a year. I would recommend calling ahead to the liquor stores. You can find their contact info below. Cheers!

I’m a Korean-born, Canadian-American raised, University of Tennessee alumna. I’m a photographer in my own right, a Saved By The Bell trivia expert, and I’ve been told my handwriting should be a font. I love BBQ, college football, and of course, craft beer. My homebrewing boyfriend has certainly helped contribute to my love of craft beer, but I’ve always been a fan of trying new and different beers. I enjoy all styles, but I’m the definition of a hop head — the hoppier the better, IMO.

News, Events and Catching Up

Picture5 It’s been a while since we posted one of these, but I felt like it’s needed after taking an online inventory of our social media. When Girls’ Pint Out started almost 4 years ago, I don’t think Tamre or myself thought it would grow to be this monster that it is now, but I’m proud of it. In the past 12 months, we’ve added a couple dozen chapters and managed to gain great followers(we love you all!). I wanted to post a run down of our active chapters and say thanks to all the girls helping to make GPO a great brand. We have such a great team of bloggers, event promoters and planners who make this work. To that, I say, Cheers, Girls’! images

Girls’ Pint Out at GABF Each chapter has a handful of events coming up that you can find on their Facebook page. We also have a great group of ladies heading out to GABF this week with swag! We’ll post info on that tomorrow – so check back if you’re heading to Great American Beer Festival in Denver this week. We’d love to meet you! Holly has a list of events here that you can check out if you’ll be there.

Sin and Chronic with New Belgium Brewing Earlier this summer, co-founder Jenn Litz of Craft Business Daily, a publication for beer suppliers, distributors and retailers, brewed a collaboration with New Belgium Beer called Sin and Chronic. It’s a unique take on a gin and tonic beer cocktail with Sorachi Ace hops, juniper and citrus spice-blend. We’re hosting a Google Hangout with several chapters who’ll be enjoying the brew across the US on October 23rd. We’ll post more info as it comes to us and let you know where you can find it in your state!
