Arizona Girls’ Pint Out Founder

My husband and I have been called “one of the top three beer couples” in Arizona by a local craft beer distributor. Recently The Brew Bros named me one of the top five most Beerfluential people in Arizona. An honor like that comes from years of developing a palate for craft beer formed by world travel and taking part in tastings and festivals to learn about rare and acclaimed craft beers. Traveling in geographically disparate parts of the US (Washington, Oregon, Louisiana, Tennessee, New York, Washington DC) has given me firsthand knowledge of local craft beer scenes. In total I have visited nine countries in western Europe, eastern Europe and South America- from Ireland to Moldova (look it up). Tracing internationally enjoyed lager beer, or “pivo” back to microbrew roots in the Czech Republic and finding and understanding largely extinct local styles of beer Ireland (like Oyster Stout) has helped to round my experience in the States. I am also co-brewer of a home brew label, Black Dog Brew. Since beginning to home brew in 2008 my husband and I have brewed beer of a variety of styles, including a barley wine style, Scotch ale, and Imperial Porter aged in a whiskey barrel. Most recipes are personally built, requiring a depth of knowledge of the main ingredients of beer: water, grain, hops and yeast. I am an active member of Arizona Society of Homebrewer’s, serving as their Secretary for 2011. Add to all of this a commitment to sharing the joy of craft beer with others. In April 2010 I founded AZ Girl’s Pint Out, a local chapter of Girls’ Pint Out, a group started in Indiana. I feel very strongly that in general American’s have been subject to hollow versions of beer. Once I discovered the amazing varieties- the nuances and range of possibilities craft beer quickly became a passion. We typically meet twice a month to share in the glories of craft beer with fellow Arizona women. PS- at my “day job” I am Director of Arizona Advocacy Programs for the National Non-profit Childhelp.
